Fixed Term Contract

PURPOSE
To lead a specialised ground crew of firefighters across various operational bases within the Western Cape, on and off the fire line, ensuring that a professional firefighting service is provided.
JOB OUTPUTS
- Ensure crew readiness for an assignment
- Ensure availability, qualifications, and capabilities of resources to complete assignment
- Establish structure, reporting procedures, and chain of command of assigned personnel
- Ensure the safety, welfare, and accountability of assigned personnel
- Establish work assignments, performance expectations, monitor performance, and provide feedback
- Gather, update, and apply situational information relevant to the assignment
- Evaluate actions to complete assignments safely and to meet identified objectives
- Coordinate tactical operations with adjoining resources and supervisor
- Use suitable communication techniques to share relevant information with appropriate personnel
- Ensure project documentation is complete and disposition is appropriate
- Plan and ensure demobilisation procedures are followed
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- ICS 100 Introduction to the Incident Command System
- ICS 200 ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
- RT130 Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher
- Helitack Training
- Be available to work standby shifts
- Will be required to reside close to area of operations
- High level of fitness* and good health
- Satisfactory performance as Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1)
- Valid South African Drivers Licence and hold a Public Drivers Permit
- Highly mobile for deployment across the country and internationally
- Police Clearance
- Alignment to the company’s Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Substance Use Policy
- Pass the arduous physical test (as prescribed in the approved Western Cape Veld Fire Work Group Standards)

- Good planning, organisational and time management skills. Needs Basic Microsoft Skills
- Ability to work accurately under pressure
- Flexibility to adjust quickly to fast changing circumstances
