Project Coordinator

Fixed Term contract (August 2026 – December 2027)

Location: Middelburg, Eastern Cape

PURPOSE

To lead the on-site implementation of an avifaunal management programme.

JOB OUTPUT

  • Daily management of teams based at multiple sites
  • Oversight of all OLSDOD activities, including bird/bat monitoring and turbine shutdown coordination.
  • Execution of PCFM programme activities including carcass search schedules, bias trials, and accurate data logging.
  • Full compliance with EMPr, OLSDOD and PCFM SOPs, and client-specific requirements.
  • Ensure thorough data collection, verification, and reporting (daily and monthly).
  • Management of project assets including vehicles, specialized equipment, and PPE.
  • Implementation and enforcement of all Health & Safety protocols.
  • Management of stakeholders and community engagement in accordance with frameworks.
  • Investigation and reporting of all incidents, including bird/bat fatalities and near misses.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary Qualification in the Environmental field (e.g., Nature Conservation, Environmental Science, or Environmental Management).
  • Demonstrated experience in project and team management, ideally with field-based teams in remote or challenging environments.
  • Previous experience in avifaunal or ecological monitoring is highly advantageous.
  • Valid South African Driver’s License (PDP preferred).
  • First Aid Certification (Level 1 or higher).
  • Health and Safety Representative training.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong knowledge of OLSDOD and PCFM methodologies (training will be provided).
  • Excellent leadership, team coordination, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in radio communication, MS Office Suite, and report writing tools.
  • Understanding of HR procedures and staff performance systems.
  • Basic firefighting and snake awareness skills.
  • Advanced bird identification and ecological monitoring competencies.
  • Knowledge of invasive alien vegetation and herbicide application (certification preferred).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage resources efficiently under pressure.
