PURPOSE

To provide client-side governance by ensuring that the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Principal Contractor and subcontractors fully implement and adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

JOB OUTPUTS

  • Facilitation of Contractor Mobilisation & provision of Legal Compliance Assurance
  • Provision of Personnel onboarding and Site access control
  • Implementation of Daily Field Inspections & Emergency Readiness
  • Implementation of Monthly Auditing, Performance Tracking & System Administration
  • Ensure ongoing Field Risk Management & Operational Controls including immediate escalations of non-compliance
  • Reporting on detailed daily inspections and ensuring that contractors report all incidents via approved systems
  • Compilation of Health & Safety Statistics and facilitation of Governance Meetings

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or Diploma in one or more of the following disciplines: Safety, Health, Environmental, Risk and/or Quality Management
  • Valid SACPCMP registration at Officer (CHSO) or Candidate Construction Health and Safety Manager (Can.CHSM) level
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Health and Safety Officer or supervisory role
  • In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) No. 85 of 1993, its associated Regulations and applicable construction safety codes
  • Formal training and practical experience in conducting baseline/issue-based Risk Assessments and leading Incident Investigations.
  • Prior hands-on experience working on utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Valid Driver’s license

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage independent workloads and maintain flexibility in working hours
  • Proven ability to enforce compliance when dealing with non-complying individuals, supervisors or corporate managers
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of MS Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, Etc) and digital network filing systems
  • Strong administrative, organisational and data-entry skills with acute attention to detail
