PROJECT DETAILS: APPLICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION IN TERMS OF THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ACT (ACT 107 OF 1998) FOR THE PROPOSED REPAIR AND REHABILITATION OF THE BANKS OF THE LOURENS RIVER AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE ON PORTIONS 0, 2, 3, 4 AND 5 OF THE FARM LOURENSFORD NO. 741, PORTIONS 0 AND 2 OF THE FARM VERGELEGEN ANNEX NO. 744 AND PORTIONS 0, 1 AND 2 OF THE FARM VERGELEGEN NO. 737, SOMERSET WEST.
DECISION ON the APPLICATION: In terms of the National Environmental Management Act (Act 107 of 1998), (“NEMA”), the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (“DEADP”) has granted the applicant, Vergelegen Wines (Pty) Ltd an authorisation to repair and rehabilitate the banks of the Lourens River.
APPEALS PROCESS
Registered interested and affected parties (“I&APs”) are advised that an appeal to the decision taken by the Department may be lodged in terms of the National Appeal Regulations, 2014 (as amended). Any I&AP who wishes to appeal must also serve a copy of the appeal to all registered I&APs and any Organ of State with interest in the matter.
An appellant must comply with regulation 4(2) and submit the appeal in writing on the form obtainable from the appeal administrator. Appeals must be submitted by no later than 15th of July 2025. Appeals, Responding Statements and supporting documents must be submitted to the Appeal Administrator by means of one of the following methods:
