Environmental Site Compliance Officer

Fixed Term Contract (24 months)

Construction Site Based

PURPOSE

Delivery of environmental management services on project sites, with a focus on construction projects.

JOB OUTPUTS

  • Implement environmental management requirements as per:
    o Project’s approved Environmental Authorisation (EA)
    o Project’s approved Environmental Management Plan (EMPr).
    o Project’s Water Use License (WUL)
    o Any other environmental obligations (IFC Standards, Internal Environmental Management Systems, etc.)
  • Deliver environmental management related awareness training and/or workshops
  • Conduct onsite environmental management inspections and/or audits (including reporting)
  • Build and maintain positive client and project stakeholder relationships
  • Management of client environmental risk on projects
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, providing Environmental Management solutions while ensuring project authorisations are maintained and implemented.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences or related qualification
  • Certifications and/or Registrations for occupational functioning
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience delivering environmental management services
  • Willing and able to relocate and work in remote locations for extended periods of time
  • Drivers’ License and competence with driving in all road conditions including off road in a high-rise vehicle
  • Familiar with NEMA listed activities and their implementation within a project environment
  • Familiar with provincial conservation ordinances and the national biodiversity framework.
  • The ability to analyse and interpret spatial data from construction documents would be advantageous
  • Be able to interpret spatial data use and operate GPS equipment and ground truth approved facilities in relation to site plans and layouts via GIS and other appropriate programs

  • Technical expertise: apply specialised knowledge, skills, and judgment.
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of MS Suite (Word, Excel, PPT, Etc.).
  • Knowledge, understanding and application of mapping/ (GPS, SHP, KML, etc.).
  • In-depth knowledge, understanding and practical application of relevant legislation.
