PURPOSE
To drive specialised vehicles and provide firefighting services for wildland firefighting teams.
JOB OUTPUTS
- Perform Fire Fighting duties
- Professional handling of vehicles and equipment (specialised fire-fighting vehicles and equipment)
- Safe transportation of fire fighters
- Compliance with traffic regulations
- Responsibility for condition of vehicles and equipment
- Completion of daily vehicle checklists
- Completion of vehicle logbooks
- Completion of checklist for all terrain fire fighting vehicles and tankers
- Maintaining radio communication with Dispatch Centre and/or Fire Boss in a fire situation
- Performing fire-fighting duties as part of a team including fire prevention tasks
- Participating in fitness activities in order to maintain high level of fitness
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires the applicant be in possession of a minimum of a Code C drivers license (code 10) as well as a
- Professional Drivers Permit (PrDP).
- Preference will be given to drivers with a Code EC license and PrDP (Code 14) for their versatility.
- Clean Driving Record
- Flexibility to response to emergency situations
- Being available for 45 working hours per week
- Being available for additional hours on short notice
- Being on standby at a fire base for prolonged periods as and when required
- Be available to work shifts
- No criminal record
- Excellent knowledge of the Cape Town area and residing in Cape Town area
- High level of fitness and good health
- Alignment to the company’s Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Substance Use Policy
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
- Able to work under pressure, in stressful situations
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Flexibility to adjust quickly to fast changing circumstances
