NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION IN TERMS OF THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT ACT 107 OF 1998, FOR THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF THEMBALETHU SECONDARY SCHOOL SITUATED ON ERF 6925 IN SHAYAMOYA (WARD 10) IN THE GREATER KOKSTAD LOCAL MUNICIPALITY, HARRY GWALA DISTRICT, KWAZULU-NATAL

Project Details

The applicant is proposing to develop Thembalethu Secondary School on erf 6925 in Kokstad, Harry Gwala District, KZN. An application for environmental authorisation will be lodged with the competent authority to undertake listed activities 12, 19 and 27 in listing notice 1 (GN. R983, as amended) which will require the investigation, assessment and communication of potential impacts following a basic assessment process as prescribed in regulations 19 and 20 of GN.R 982 (as amended). This entails conducting a basic assessment report (BAR), environmental management programme (EMPr) and relevant specialist studies in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) and the 2014 EIA Regulations (as amended).

The proposed development consists of the construction of:

An Administration building; 2 Science Classrooms; a General Store and Groundsman Store; a Kitchen; 2 Consumer Classes; a Computer Room; a Media Centre Block; a Team Teaching Room; a Multipurpose Centre; 5 Standard Classrooms with an HOD Office, a Counselling Suite and Male Ablutions; 5 Standard Classrooms, an HOD Office and General Store; 5 Standard Classrooms, an HOD Office and Female Ablutions; 5 Standard Classrooms and an HOD Office; a Gate House; 39 Ordinary Parking Bays; 2 Disabled Parking Bays; an Assembly Area/ Courtyard; a Hardened Combi Court Sportfields; a Netball Court; a 60 x 90m Soccer Field and a Refuse yard.
